Wednesday, May 3th, was a big day for all of the 2016 presidential candidates–Indiana held their primaries. Before the results were determined, Trump had been the presumptive Republican nominee and Clinton the presumptive Democratic nominee. While Trump, unsurprisingly, walked away with a win, Clinton did not have the same results–Bernie Sanders took home the win on Wednesday.
Before Wednesday, the Republican candidates were Kasich, Cruz, and Trump. The results of the Indiana primaries left Kasich with 7.5% of the votes, Cruz with 36.7%, and Trump with 53.3%; thus, causing Kasich and Cruz to drop out of the race for the White House. Trump left with 57 delegates.
The results for the Democratic candidates did not show such a drastic difference in votes. Bernie Sanders with 52.7% of the votes and Hillary Clinton with 47.3% showed that people are still very torn between the two. Although Sanders walked away with 44 delegates and Clinton with 38 delegates, Clinton is still the presumptive Democratic nominee.
Many events and results have been surprising throughout this election–and there is surely more to come. The next primaries will be held on May 10th with the states being Nebraska and West Virginia; although these are not the most crucial states to capture a victory in, it will be interesting to see the results.
Whether you “feel the Bern” or want to “make America great again”, these upcoming months are sure to be interesting for everyone.
