Throughout the whole month of January, the Health Careers seniors were working on making videos for the Teen Brain Health Project sponsored by The MetroHealth Medical Center. This is a project that Metro Health Hospital holds for high schools all around Cuyahoga County. Many schools such as Padua Franciscan, Maple Heights, St. Ignatius and Lawrence also competed. This years theme was Multiple Sclerosis. Students had to create a 60 second long video describing what multiple sclerosis was, how doctors would diagnose it, signs & symptoms and also treatment plans for this disease. These videos were supposed to educate teens about multiple sclerosis in a creative and informative way.
The Health Careers class of 2015 broke into 5 groups to create their own ingenious videos. These students are lucky enough to have a classroom off campus with a lab in the back that has multiple hospital beds to record their videos on. On Tuesday, March 10, The MetroHealth’s Neurodiagnostic Department hosted a reception for all the participating students to show off their department and to view all of the videos. They offered breakfast for the students and also had examples of diagnostic testing such as an EKG.
Out of all of the amazing videos, Lakewood ended up coming in second place and winning a check for $500. Padua Franciscan high school came in first place and earned a check for $2,500. Lakewood’s winning group consisted of Aidan O’Donnell, Moe Alodat, Alonzo Griffin and Laurel Roelle. The class is still deciding on what they want to do with their money.
