It’s official. We’ve been back in school for over three weeks, now. Doesn’t time fly fast? There’s already been tests, projects, presentations, and more. New friendships have already formed, and some old ones are already slipping away. You’re already figuring out which teachers give tons homework and which ones don’t give any. You’ve already watched classmates get sick and have to take off school. You’ve already watched our sports teams beat and get beaten. School’s truly back in session. To you new arrivals, this might be a scary place. Lakewood High is  a giant building full of big people and intimidating teachers. To us returning students, this is a new year to improve upon the last. But, no matter who you are, there are always little bumps in the road.

Well, here’s some studently advice for everyone:

1.) Stay true to yourself; don’t change for other people.

2.) If you have a question, just ask. There really is no such thing as a “stupid” question.

3.) Don’t forget your breakfast. You probably hear it all the time, but you really do need a little energy to kickstart your day (and brain)! Start up your metabolism!

4.) Don’t forget to smile. There will be tough days, but a positive attitude can go a long way. Just a smile can make you open to new opportunities.

5.) You can do anything you set your mind to. All you have to do is believe in yourself.

6.) Stay Positive. This goes along with number 4; but, it will be okay. It’s only a bad day. Things will get better. Just keep moving forward. Be happy.

7.) Be nice to others. A little bit of kindness can go a long way.

8.) Make the best out of a situation. You only get one shot, so be grateful for everything that is given to you. Always say thank you.

9.) Study, study, study! Some classes are easier than others; that is true. But you should always study for your tests. Try your hardest to be the best student you can be.

10.) Never take the easy way out. Don’t take a class because it sounds “easy.” Test your own limits and help yourself grow. Take classes that sound interesting.

Things get tough. Nothing is perfect. No one person is. Everything isn’t awesome. But you have to make the best out of what you are given. Don’t be a “bad guy.” Be as kind and “good” as you can be. Be someone you would want to hang out with. Love yourself. And always try your hardest. Challenge yourself. Help yourself grow as a person and as a student. Learn. Speak up for yourself. Don’t let other people push you around. Don’t conform to fit into a group. Always be yourself. Smile. Be happy. Keep moving forward. Act positive, and positivity will come to you. Ask questions. Believe in yourself.

School can be a scary place, but it will only be as great as you let it be. You only get one shot at high school, so live the way you want to tell your grandchildren. Make memories and always be yourself. Stay positive.
