As many runners were finishing the world-renowned Boston Marathon on Monday, April 15, two explosions went off. At least three people were killed, and over 130 were wounded.
The explosions were 550 feet apart and occurred near the finish line. The scene erupted into chaos, with bystanders and runners in a state of confusion.
National pandemonium resulted as well. “We will get to the bottom of this,” said President Obama. “We will find who did this, and we will find out why they did this.”
The person or people behind the explosions have not been identified, but police have at least one person of interest.
Reports from witnesses explained that some people close to the explosion lost limbs, and many of the injuries were gruesome.
The Boston Celtics have canceled their Tuesday night home game scheduled against the Indiana Pacers.
Two other explosives were also found close to the finish line, according to a U.S. intelligence official. Security has been increased and enforced around Boston and around future marathon locations.
