West Shore Career-Technical student Jonathan Pizzo has received an invitation to apply for this year’s inaugural CTE – US Presidential Scholars Program. This is the first year Career Tech Education students from across the nation will be selected for this national recognition from the President of the United States. Jonathan is one of only five students chosen from over 120,000 students enrolled in a Career-Technical program throughout Ohio.
Jonathan is a senior at Lakewood High School and West Shore Career-Tech, where he is enrolled in the pre-engineering program. He holds a 4.6 GPA and is a member of the nationally recognized Lakewood High School Academic Challenge Team, cross country and tennis teams. “Jon is extremely adroit in creating unique and successful designs, far exceeding the requirements of the original. Jon’s ability to self-teach on many difficult topics is extraordinary,” commented Robert Sedlak, Engineering and Calculus instructor.
“We are thrilled with this recognition for Jon. We see this as one indication that our West Shore programming is providing the right educational opportunities and hands-on experiences to enable our students to achieve to their fullest potential,” remarked William DiMascio, Coordinator of West Shore Career-Tech.
Jon’s next step will be to complete the CTE – US Presidential Scholars application in early 2016. Each state can nominate five students and in the spring, the President will select 20 students from across the country for the national award.
