Midterm week is fast approaching, and teachers and students alike have entered a state of panic and frenzy. As teachers attempt to finish second quarter grades and plan their tests, students cram, cry, and plead their way towards a good grade on these end-of-semester exams. If you’re struggling with studying, or don’t even know where to start, here’s some helpful tips for mastering your tests this upcoming week:
1. According to examtime.com, studying 100% of every topic is a waste of time. They suggest focusing on about 80% of the topic in order to conserve energy and focus.
2. Know the format of the exam; with this knowledge, you have a better idea of what types of questions will be on the test, what information to focus on while studying, and how to pace yourself during the exam itself.
3. Use trigger words to test your knowledge of a topic. If you really know a subject, seeing certain key words or phrases should spark connections between that word and a plethora of information related to it.
4. The night before the test, DO NOT CRAM! It may seem like a good idea, but all-nighters and a lack of relaxation the night before a big exam will do more harm than good. Get enough sleep and eat well the night before- you’ll be much better off.
5. Try to relax! Midterms matter and can make a big difference in your grade, but in the end, it’s only a test. Don’t lose your sanity over an exam. Good luck!
