For some physics students this memorial day weekend was more like a four day weekend than a three day weekend. On Friday May twenty-third, one hundred fun physics, physics and AP physics students got on two school buses and took a trip to cedar point for Cedar Point Physics Day. Senior Jade Borocz states, “I am very excited to be going to cedar point , it should be a fun day.”
For the past week, you may have seen a couple students walking around with a small scale roller coaster in the hall ways. The roller coasters were the physics students final project of the year. When building the roller coaster students have few requirements, it has to be smaller than a meter by a meter by a meter and you can not use any tubing, like a hose. The roller coaster it self had to contain a first hill, a loop or cork screw, and a second elevation half the height of the first. Some groups got very creative with what they made their track out of, others not so much. The most common supplies used was playing cards, but some people used paper, metal, pop cans, and paper towel rolls cut in half.
If you would like to see some of the roller coasters in action stop by the L-Room next week on Tuesday, May twenty seventh. The open house is from 5:30 to 7:00 Tuesday night. Do you have a sibling or friend in physics, come support them and sign in under their name and earn your friend or sibling some extra credit.
