All-State Selections lead LHS music honors

Fall is the season for the Ohio Music Educators Association (OMEA) All-State and Regional Orchestra and District Band and Choir selections. Once again, Lakewood High can be proud of its high number of musicians selected to perform in these prestigious groups.

Nine students from Lakewood High were accepted into the Regional Orchestra, and of those nine, sophomore cellist Jimmy Toner and freshman violinist Ryan Detwiler were chosen to play with the All-State Orchestra., which will perform at the OMEA’s annual conference in Columbus this February.  The Northeast Regional Orchestra concert will be held Nov. 24 at 3 pm, in Cleveland State University’s Waetjen Auditorium.

Chosen for the Regional Orchestra were Devon Chodzin (bass), Zeke Dalisky (violin), Alex Figueroa (viola), Andrew Miller (cello), Abbi Norman (violin) and Nora Varcho (viola).

On Nov. 15, a number of choir and band students performed in the OMEA District 4/7 Honors ensembles at Cleveland State. Representing the Band Department were sophomores Nathan Bour and Evan Levis, juniors Stephen Moncol and Taylor Wohlfeil, and seniors Hugh Campbell, Amy Garlesky and Katt Krueger. Selected for the choir were freshman Claire Ciolli, juniors Stephanie Charlton and William Solarz, and seniors Virginia Ashley, Willow Hawks and Kyla Rable.
