It is that time of year again. The Lakewood girls’ rugby team has started with the season. It started with a new girls meeting on the first of the month. There were about thirty girls that showed up to the meeting wanting to take part in the 2013-2014 rugby season. The girls practice from early November until the beginning of June. Rugby practices all through the winter months. In the months of December, January, and February two of the three practice are inside at an elementary school, while the Wednesday practice is outside at Garfield if it is not to cold. The first practice of the season took place on November fourth. The practice started off with about sixty returning and new players.
There are fifteen positions in rugby and Lakewood has a varsity and junior varsity. Lakewood Girls Rugby does not have cuts. When a girls has stopped playing it is normally because she has quit on her own terms. This year Lakewood Girls Rugby has two new additions to its coaching staff, Coach Jessica Bozick and Coach Nick Blantern. Lakewood girls’ rugby is coming back from some setbacks that happened last year and cannot wait to get the season started. Lakewood Girls Rugby practices Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 4:30 to 6:30 at Garfield Middle School. If you are interested in playing rugby this year come to one of our practices and let the fun begin.
