Help Abroad

Most kids head off into the college life right after high school. Others chose the optional studying abroad somewhere out of the states. For senior Katie Montgomery, a break is defiantly needed. She has applied to the American Field Service (AFS).  This opportunity was a great way for Montgomery to give back to the community. The idea of hosting a foreign exchange student has run through her family history. In the past few years her family has worked with other host families and host students.

Applying online and working through so much paper work will paid off when Montgomery was accepted into a new home. Flying to Costa Rica has been a dream of Montgomery’s. For five months she will work with families in need of help. She’ll get the time to bring aid and service to orphanage homes, and comfort to the kids. Montgomery will spend some time helping single mothers by watching the children, so the guardians’ are able to work.

Instead of going straight to studying, Montgomery will be working on community service, helping out children earn benefits from her company. She’ll most likely get other assignments along the way; this is just the beginning for Montgomery.
