Lakewood police dept. recieved a call on Saturday at 9:45 p.m. from a woman who said that her husband threatened to blow himself up by leaving the natural gas turned on. Several surrounding homes on Bunts and Park-wood, between Detroit and Franklin, were evacuated when the on-site officers smelled gas. The streets were also closed as a precaution. Lakewood police Capt. said the assailant wasn’t at the house when they arrived.

The wife and children of the man were out of the house when he made the threat. Firemen showed up to clear the gas and soon after, the utilities were shut off. Residents of the evacuated homes were also allowed to return home.

The man who made the threat turned himself into the police after crews cleared his house. He faces charges of attempted aggravated arson and inducing panic. No formal charges were immediately filed, but he is now going to have to pay for his actions in court.

The 43-year-old man’s name is Anthony Juray, and he is facing a grand jury for the threat. He has since waived his right to a preliminary hearing Monday in Lakewood Municipal Court. His case was sent to Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court, according to the clerk’s office.

Juray posted his $5,000 bail Monday, according to Lakewood City Jail. No-one thinks he will cause any serious threat, Hassing said the couple was in an ongoing domestic dispute when the threat was made, and he doesn’t think that Juray was ever going to cause any actual damage.
