30th Annual Celebration of Excellence

On May 15, 276 sixth- through 12th-grade students were honored at the 30th Annual Celebration of Excellence held in the Civic Auditorium. The ceremony honored students who achieved a 4.0 GPA or higher through three quarters.

The Lakewood Alumni Foundation and the Lakewood Leadership Team presented almost 50 scholarships. Also, seniors Ellen Latsko, Sheila McMahon, and Morgenna Zuby were recognized for being Lakewood High’s National Merit Finalists.

Keynote speaker Stephanie Boyd, a graduate and Spanish teacher at Lakewood High School, paid tribute to her father, former Superintendent Richard Boyd, who founded the Celebration of Excellence 30 years ago. Boyd shared the lessons she learned from her parents on the journey of excellence.

Seniors shared post-graduation plans and discuessed choices for their prospective colleges and majors.

Students will be attending colleges such as Case Western Reserve University, The Ohio State University, Ohio University, Boston University, University of Notre Dame, University of Pittsburgh, Vanderbilt University, Carnegie Mellon, University of Virginia, Oberlin College, College of Wooster, and many more.
