Every year on the first saturday of December, Lakewood puts together an event called Light Up Lakewood. One of the main events taken place is the lighting of the Christmas tree outside of Lakewood Hospital. The tree shines throughout the holidays in a bright purple. Christmas lights are also put around the rest of the city, giving it a delightful and cheerful sense of character to put everyone in the holiday spirit. But the lighting of the tree isn’t the only event taken place on this day, there are various other activity that happen, that make it fun for all ages. The children can see Santa Clause or make crafts through the multiple clubs that volunteer. One of the clubs participating is H2O, a club hosted at Lakewood High School and ran by Mrs. Hutchenson and Mrs. Chodzin. The club stands for Help To Others and is one of the most popular clubs at LHS. Another activity that high school students partcipate in is becoming one of Santa’s elves. This event is tons of fun and also gives back. By raising money to help buy toys for children that arent as fortunate, it puts a smile on everyone’s face.

An activity that you cant forget about is the parade. There are numerous flots that march down the streets of Lakewood giving out candy to children. One of the floats that has been seen in the parade for numerous years is the Light Up Lakewood King and Queen. This award is given to the Junior boy and girl that wrote the best essay. This year’s king and queen are Abe Dalisky and Sarah Bene. The crowns will be passed downed from former king and queen Anna Kotansky and Nate Young.

Not only are there tons of actvities that you can take action in but there are also tons of food trucks, various performances and fireworks. Take a trip down to Downtown Lakewood on Saturday, December 3 to see all of the fun!
