Day of Silence

Our silence will be heard. April 15th 2016 is a day when many students, teenagers and even adults take a vow of silence to stand up in a way that people would think is irrational. The vow is taken to stand up for those who are Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender who are too afraid to speak up for themselves most of the time. This year students at Lakewood High School decorated plain white shirts to wear for that day, some will even put duct tape over their mouths to help them refrain from speaking. However there are circumstances such as choir or other music classes in which the vow does not keep you from participating in. The day of silence takes place all over Ohio and in some other states through the country. People take pictures and post them all over social media to try to spread the word on the message and group in which they are supporting. On the day all teachers of the participants are emailed so they know and little slips that state the reason for the day are passed out as excuses. Therefore the students cannot be called on in class or made to read except for the already stated exceptions. Life for those who are LGBT usually isn’t easy because they are targeted for being different. Stand up for what you believe in and let your silence be heard.
