Disney is often a popular vacation spot for children and adults where you pay an exorbitant amount of money to wait in lines and meet adults dressed in costumes. Although the magical experience leaves a hefty imprint on your wallet, it leaves an even bigger imprint in your heart. Unfortunately, not everyone can experience a magical day at Disneyland.
French police are currently investigating the death of a Disneyland Paris worker who was found dead inside the haunted house attraction, The Phantom Manor, on Saturday. The attraction remained closed on Monday following the discovery of the body of a 45-year-old man who worked at the park as an electrician. His coworkers discovered the body and it is assumed that the death was an accident.
“We are truly saddened to learn of the passing of one of our Cast Members, and our hearts go out to his family and friends during this very difficult time,” responds the Disneyland resort.
It is believed that the technician died between 8 and 9 A.M. from electrocution before the park was opened. There are several reports that reveal that he was working on the lights for the attraction. Although the worker’s name has not been publicly released, a union representative of Disney, Patrick Maldidier, said that the employee “always had a smile on his face.”
This death marks the first accident in years that occurred at the park. In 2013, a young 5-year-old boy fell overboard on the Pirates of the Caribbean ride and was trapped under the boat. Fortunately, his father was able to pull him to safety. Another incident occurred in 2010, when a contracted worker capsized and fell under a boat in the It’s a Small World attraction.
The Phantom Manor is located in Frontierland and is described as a “fun-filled mystery” with “ghoulish ghosts and spirits.” About 15 million tourists visit Disneyland Paris and the park is considered a popular attraction in Europe. The attraction is expected to reopen after the police investigation. Guests will be able to experience the attraction with a new additional ghost and be reminded of the kind man that worked to ensure they experience a magical time at Disneyland.
