The Lakewood High School orchestra department hit a new record in fundraising with its $18,575 raised from the recent Music Marathon held on Nov. 14. Students collected sponsorships from friends, family, teachers, neighbors and businesses and easily surpassed the event’s goal of $10,000.
The marathon entails students arriving at school on a Saturday morning in their pajamas beginning at 5:30 am. Music is played on the Civic stage non-stop from about 6:30 am til the end of the evening’s concert at 7 pm. Donors who gave above a certain level were able to conduct the 200-plus students on stage or play along with the Lakewood Project. The day is long for all involved but the pay off is worth it!
